To increase a woman’s fertility, taking better care of your body is a good first step. But what else can women do to improve their chances of having a baby?
The most important advice for a woman who wants to get pregnant is to get to know her body, specifically her menstrual cycle.

It’s impossible to say how long it takes to get pregnant because it’s different in each woman due to differences in body system.
Some women become pregnant quickly, while others take longer.

A lot of couples will get pregnant within a year if they have regular sex and don’t use contraceptives.
But women become less fertile as they get older. Research has shown that among couples having regular unprotected sex.

This is a slightly different question but one that many people wonder about! Let’s say you do get pregnant in a given month. How long after you had sex do you get pregnant?
First, you need to keep in mind that fertilization of the egg isn’t pregnancy. Not yet. Any couple that has gone through IVF treatment and had an embryo transfer that “didn’t stick” can tell you this. For pregnancy to happen, an embryo needs to implant itself into the endometrial lining.
Secondly, you need to factor that sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days. This means if you have sex at 10 pm on Monday, but ovulation doesn’t occur until 7 am Thursday, fertilization of the egg can still occur, though is less likely.
However, if you had sex on Friday, and Friday is the day you ovulate, fertilization may happen up to 12 hours; after 12 hours, it is unlikely that the ovum will be fertilised. (You’re most likely to get pregnant if you have sex the day before ovulation.)

But men’s fertility is less clear when it comes to effect of age.

There are majority of factors which can affect a couple’s chances of getting pregnant.

These include :

1. Age.
2. How often you have sex.
3. Your Reproductive health.
4. Your general Body health.
5. Fertility  status.
6. Body weight.
8. Infections & Diseases.

Here are tips that may help increase a healthy woman’s chances of becoming pregnant.

1.Record the frequency of your menstrual cycle.

If you want to have a baby, you should try to monitor whether the first days of your period tend to come the same number of days apart every month, which is considered regular. This is because your periods may be irregular, that means that your cycle dates vary from month to month. You can track this information on a calendar, to enable you better predict when you might be ovulating , which is the time when your ovaries will release an egg every month.

According to American Pregnancy Association, a woman’s egg is fertile for only 12 to 24 hours after its release. However, a man’s sperm can survive in a woman’s body for up to five days.

2. Monitor and Record your ovulation period.
Ovulation occurs about two weeks before the arrival of periods only in women with regular cycles. But it is difficult to predict ovulation in women with irregular menstrual cycles, nevertheless, it usually occurs 12 to 16 days before the start of the next period.

There are majority of methods women can use to help determine their most fertile days each month.

These include:

(i) Home ovulation-prediction kits.
This will help you save the energy and time of brain work trying to calculate your ovulation period.
It takes some of the guesswork out of figuring out when you are  ovulating . You can buy it at pharmaceutical stores.
These  kits are used to test urine for luteinizing hormone, a substance whose levels increase each month during ovulation and cause the ovaries to release an egg.
According to American pregnancy Association, the three days right  after a positive test result are the best time for couples to have sex to increase their chances of becoming pregnant .

(ii) To track cervical mucus.

This is another method a woman can use to know her ovulation period. This involves a woman regularly checking both the amount and appearance of mucus in her vagina. Just before ovulation when a woman is most fertile, the amount of mucus increases and it also becomes thinner, clearer and more slippery, when mucus is slippery, it can help sperm make its way to the egg.
Women who checked their cervical mucus regularly were 2.3 times more likely to get pregnant over a period of six-month, according to the research published in journal fertility and sterility.

3. Have sex every other day during the fertile window

The “fertile window” spans a six-day interval, the five days prior to ovulation and the day of it, according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine . These are the days each month when a woman is most fertile.
Research has shown that there hasn’t been a big difference in pregnancy rates between couples who had sex every day during the “fertile window” (37 percent) compared with couples who did it every other day. And having sex every other day might be easier for a couple to pull off,”
There is no evidence that sex position will influence a couple’s chances of having a baby, nor does a woman lying on her back for a certain amount of time after intercourse increase her chances of conceiving.
Although, there are some water-based vaginal lubricants that can decrease the movement of sperm during inter course. You can consult your Doctor for  recommendations when lubrication is needed.

If you are attempting to conceive, start taking a prenatal vitamin even before becoming pregnant. This will help you to find the one that is  more compatible to your body system, then you can stay on it during pregnancy.
Another possibility is to take a daily multivitamin, that contains folic acid of at least 400 micrograms (mcg) per day. Vitamin B is important for preventing birth defects in a baby’s brain and spine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges women to take 400 mcg of folic acid every day for at least one month before getting pregnant to help prevent birth defects.

It is a good idea to start on folic acid supplementation  ahead of time, because the neural tube develops into the brain and spine,.three to four weeks after conception occurs, before many women may realize they are expecting.

5. Reduce on strenuous workouts

Getting too much exercise or doing frequent strenuous workouts could interfere with ovulation.
Although, being physically active most days of the week can help a woman’s body prepare for the demands of pregnancy and labor.
Women who engage in heavy exercise usually have lots of menstrual disturbances, and a lot of times these women need to cut back on their workouts if they want to become pregnant.

6. Eat healthy and highly nutritious foods.

Eating a variety of healthy foods can help prepare a woman’s body for pregnancy by giving her adequate stores of critical nutrients such as calcium, protein and iron. This means eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, dairy and healthy sources of fat.

Besides taking a supplement containing folic acid, a woman can also obtain this B vitamin from foods such as dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, fortified breads and cereals, beans, citrus fruits and orange juice. High Cholesterol Levels may make It difficult to Get Pregnant.
Reduce caffeine consuming more than 500 milligrams of caffeine a day has been linked with a decrease in fertility in women.
Smoking ages a woman’s ovaries and depletes her supply of eggs.
It is also a adviseable for women to stay away from secondhand smoke, which may affect their chances of becoming pregnant. Stay away from alcohol as well if you are hoping to conceive.

7. Try to maintain a healthy body weight.

Try as much as you can, not to be too heavy because it can reduce a woman’s chances of conceiving, but being too thin can make it even more difficult to have a baby.

A woman who is overweight can take twice as long to become pregnant than a woman whose BMI is considered normal, according to research.
And a woman who is underweight might take four times as long to conceive.
Having too much body fat produces excess estrogen , which can interfere with ovulation. Losing 5 to 10 percent of body weight before a woman starts trying to get pregnant could improve her fertility, according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
When two partners who are couples are obese it may take from 55% to 59% longer to become pregnant, compared with couples who are not obese.

Women who are too thin might not be getting regular periods or could stop ovulating.

8. Be aware of age-related fertility declines.

There is a gradual fertility decline in women beginning in their 30s, a sharper decline after age 37 and a steep decline after age 40.
These declines mean it may take longer to become pregnant.
As women get older their fertility decreases because of age-related changes in the ovaries that cause a decline in the quantity and quality of her eggs. With advancing age, there’s also an increased risk for some health problems, such as uterine fibroids , endometriosis and blockage of the fallopian tubes, which can contribute to a loss of fertility.
These declines mean it may take longer time to become pregnant.
